Carrydown of liquid friction modifier

چکیده

A small-scale laboratory apparatus was built to study liquid friction modifier (LFM) behavior in a top-of-rail application. field experiment also carried out complement the findings. KELTRACK® (a water-based LFM) used as test fluid. Laser-induced fluorescence served measure LFM thickness left on track after passage of wheel. The lab experiments show that cannot withstand high wheel-rail contact pressure nip present cargo rail situations. As result, is squeezed laterally and attaches edges wheel band. This “edge liquid” then down Gravimetric measurements band confirm this observation, only minute amount through valleys between surface roughness features. In experiment, applied from trackside unit tangent section track. About 500 m downstream application point, has curved section. be detected anywhere short distance (∼200 m) past unit. However, detectable sections up approximately 2 km believed due transfer track, caused by movement train rounds curve. presence far consistent with prior reduced lateral force sites.

WS2 Nanoparticles - Potential Replacement for ZDDP and Friction Modifier Additives

In high-pressure, high-temperature sliding contacts, WS2 nanoadditives react with the metal substrate to generate 100+ nm chemical tribofilms with a layered structure and excellent tribological properties. The friction, wear and micromechanical properties of WS2 tribofilms are compared with those of tribofilms formed by the zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) antiwear additive and ZDDP-organic f...

Effect of Ionic Liquid as Mobile-phase Modifier

Studies have been performed to investigate the effect of an ionic liquid, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate, as mobile-phase modifier on the retention behaviour of N-carbobenzyloxy-D-phenylalanine and D-tryptophan on a reversed-phase silica-based column. Retention of these amino acids was determined with water–acetonitrile mobile phases and with mobile phases containing 2, 5, or 10 ...

Liquid Nanostructures: Phase Transitions, Forces and Friction

Grand canonical Monte Carlo calculations and molecular dynamics simulations are used to investigate binary mixtures confined between chemically patterned surfaces. For certain patterns and surface separations, a surfaceinduced phase consisting of liquid “bridges” joining like-patterned regions of the plates is observed. Furthermore, since these bridges involve liquid-liquid interfaces their sha...

Quantized friction across ionic liquid thin films.

Ionic liquids - salts in the liquid state under ambient conditions - are of great interest as precision lubricants. Ionic liquids form layered structures at surfaces, yet it is not clear how this nano-structure relates to their lubrication properties. We measured the friction force between atomically smooth solid surfaces across ionic liquid films of controlled thickness in terms of the number ...
